it is my love of these trees
it is a personal relation to these trees,
it is their resilience and their resistance
that gives them their forms,
it is the scent of their blossom
and my joy each time i see hawthorns blossoming
and my gratitude each autumn
when i pick their berries
which help to regulate my heart-rhythms
and give me strength,
it is this combining of strength and beauty that causes my bewilderment
when once again beside the road
i see one hawthorn less

es ist meine liebe zu diesen bäumen
es ist eine persönliche beziehung zu diesen bäumen
es ist ihre zähigkeit und ihr widerstand
es ist die form, die das zeigt
es ist der geruch ihrer blumen
und meine freude, jedesmal
wenn ich einen blühenden weißdorn sehe
und meine dankbarkeit, jedesmal
wenn ich im herbst die beeren pflücke,
die mir helfen, meinen herzschlag zu regulieren
und mir kraft geben
diese formulierung von kraft und schönheit
ist es
und meine persönliche betroffenheit, wenn
wieder ein weißdorn weniger
am wege steht.
