comment: this installation was made especially for the exhibition 'herman de vries. voor jullie voeten' at the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, and refers to herman de vries’ childhood memories: "my father was interested in butterflies; my older sister was interested in plants and i was already won over as a child. the best thing was actually when we were in the dune valley of petten, where that horrible building is located now, as a child i experienced a completeness of the world that i cannot describe in words. i heard the gulls, i smelled the sea, i lay on the ground among the creeping willows, i smelled the damp soil where the peat moss grew with sundew in it, i knew all that."
